The soundtrack for the documentary film, "Same Old Story" is now available for purchase online from Discovery Sound at http://www.discoverysound.com/en/DMJ-004/

This single includes two tracks, the cover song, "Same Old Story" and the ending theme song "Overlook".  Both songs were written and preformed by Cheep Hiroishi who the documentary was actually about.  These songs have been used for background music on various Japanese television commercials.

An absolutely amazing accomplishment for the artist and a big boost for the film itself. 

It's final.  The Japanese Documentary "Same Old Story" has won Best International Music Documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival September 2008.

This was a very unexpected surprise as this was a first time film and of course independently produced and directed.  Since the news of our film winning an award from such a large film festival, it has opened the doors to future festivals.  2009 is going to be a very big year for our movie as it is going to be shown at 6 more festivals throughout the world. 
I really hope this film will touch peoples hearts and give them insight on their own life and history.

The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival was a great first experience for our film "Same Old Story".  Though the number of viewers were lower than expected, the reaction from the audience was more than expected.  By the end of the film just about everyone had tears in there eyes.

The festival started on September 18th and finished on the 25th.  The daily routine started out with morning seminars, film screenings, and after parties at night.  It really was a festival.  I would of liked to make more contacts as far as distributors and buyers are concerned, but nonetheless a great chance to share the story of Cheep Hiroishi with an international audience.

Now that we are back home in Japan, we are preparing for other festivals which will take placeright here in the Land of the Rising Sun.  Hoping to hit up the Yubari Fantastic Film Festival and the Yamagata International Documentary Festival early next year.  If everything goes as planned, "Same Old Story" will be returning to the US April 2009 for the California Independent film festival also.

Finally thank you to all of those who attended our film in New York and to all those who helped make the film a success in a whole different country. 

A Japanese documentary film titled Same Old Story has been accepted to the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival for September 2008.  This film directed by first time director Kunio Yato, is a story about one Japanese musicians look back on his career over the last 20 years.

The film was shot on location in cities throughout Japan and New York.  For New Yorkers who get a chance to see this film, it will be like taking a trip back in time.  It is indeed an inspirational film and if you are lucky enough to get a chance to see it, you won't regret it.

The film is in Japanese with English subtitles and runs 58 minutes.  It is scheduled to play in festivals throughout the United States in 2009 including Sundance.
